Follies – National Theatre
Upper Ground, Lambeth, London SE1 9PX
Fantastic modern rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s classic 1971 hit musical, bursting with glitz, glamour and drama.
Stunning performances all round, an excellent atmospheric set and perfectly located in the National Theatre which all just work together!
This seven times Tony award-winning show Inspired by the real Ziegfeld Follies does not disappoint, its engaging from start to finish and a feast for the eyes, packed full of singing, dancing and exceptional acting performances (the whole cast were excellent).
The show sees the dramas that arise from a big reunion party set in 1971 that brings back all the original Follies showgirls & boys (played by a younger duplicate cast) alongside the older original girls and boys from the nineteen twenties to the nineteen forties, open old and new wounds along the way, there’s love, there’s lies and there’s laughter but who will leave happy before the theatre is eventually demolished putting all that past to rest.
The costumes are opulent and ostentatious (in a great way!) but it is the Follies after all! the cast is perfect and the set works really well setting the scene, A fantastic piece of musical theatre providing some of Sondheim’s best songs (Could I Leave You, The Right Girl and In Buddy’s Eyes) a show that won’t disappoint, if you like an Camp, OTT production flowing with feathers then this is definitely for you!
www.Ificould.co.uk absolutely loved it!
A spectacular musical show that must be seen before 19th May 2019.
