Barry Humphries’ Weimar Cabaret
Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS
A fascinating period cabaret production presented live onstage by the all-round Aussie Actor, Comedian and of course none other than Ms Dame Edna Everage, Mr Barry Humphries and accompanied by the super talented singing diva that is Ms Meow Meow.
A slightly risqué and highly sophisticated tribute to the jazz-infused music of the Weimar Republic and nightclubs of Berlin in the 1920s & 1930s.
Barry narrates the story of how he became fascinated by the music of the era, following the arrival of a large amount of Jewish immigrants that arrived in Australia fleeing Nazi Germany of the time and that got somehow forgotten as time has moved on.
Barry’s passion for the forgotten music of this time sees it resurrected and showcased in London’s Barbican Theatre covering songs of love, laughter and beautiful instrumentals brought back to life by the talents of both Ms Meow Meow and London’s multi-talented Aurora Orchestra.
It’s only on at the Barbican until 29 July 2018, however, check the website out for any future productions.
