Sew Long - Fashion in Slovakia 1945 – 1989

Slovak National Gallery

Námestie Ľudovíta Štúra, 811 02 Staré Mesto, Slovakia

Whilst visiting Bratislava we were very lucky that our visit coincided with the excellent and excellently named ‘Sew Long Exhibition’ that charted Slovak fashion from the period 1945 – through to 1989 and was the perfect way to spend a snowy and blustery afternoon.

The exhibition expresses the direction fashion took and has taken over this period incorporating all of the changes the county has experiend through this time period

The wide range of garment featured ranges from austere mass produced pieces through to custom made creations from the experimental and creative early 1980s.

The exhibition also featured fashion photography and posters from across the decades leading visitor on a journey through a period of both struggle and gain.

And, if you have time, pop into their laid back, designer styled café, which is part of the building, grab a coffee (or a wine) and a bun and relax into their bright yellow retro styled arm chairs and if you’re lucky, you may even get rewarded with some beautiful live classic music from the stage in the corner, well we did when we were there and it was lovely.

The ‘Sew Long’ Fashion exhibition runs from 6th April 2017 — 20th August 2017.
