London Wonderground Festival
Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX
5th May - 25th September 2016
Working in unison with The London Southbank Centre (a world-famous arts centre on the South Bank of the River Thames). Wonderland is an area situated just next to Jubilee gardens and is described as a ‘spectacular spiegeltent’ offering a wide range of amazing shows from comedy, to circus to cabaret that will thrill and amaze you all at the same time.
It’s a large out door area, surrounded by trees and cute little fairy lights with a circus feel of days gone by, there’s a bandstand, fairground rides, sideshows and a lot of contemporary bars to help you settle in (you can even sit in old original Waltzes and Bumper cars whilst you sip on one of the amazing drinks that will be concocted for you, no questions asked!
The evening we went, we saw the fabulously camp, talented and very entertaining Liza’s back! (Is broken) which explores all the great Broadway roles that ‘apparently’ Liza Minnelli should have played...(tongue in cheek!)
Trevor Ashley (who has featured in Australian productions of Les Miserables and Hairspray) took us through the opportunities that Ms Minnelli should have enjoyed over the last forty years (her words!) in a very special night of song, laughter, and sparkly costume. Sold as ‘Direct from rehab, and with a seven-piece big band, Liza sings Broadway's greatest hits# she certainly did and exceptionally well, as you can probably imagine, it was a great night!
Lizas Back was only on: Wednesday 31 August & Friday 2 September, 9.30pm Saturday 3 September, 10.30pm, however, the shows keep coming, just pick something you like and you’re guaranteed to have a night you won’t forget in a hurry! Brilliant!!!
