Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium | LACMA
5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036, United States
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. LACMA is on Museum Row (and right next to the equally interesting natural La Brea Tar Pits)
The LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States, well theres certainly plenty to see and all spread across various buildings on the one campus.
We went specifically for the Mapplethorpe exhibition and we wernt dissapointed, excellent selection of his work, from start to finish, so if it goes on tour, go see it!.
The buildings themselves are amazing. The famous Lamposts on display and the front of the building (pictured) draw a large crowd, wanting to interactive and have photographs taken, weaving in and out of the display, simple but very effective, This eormaous piece is made up of a collection of a cast iron street lamps featuring 17 different styles, which vary depending on the municipality that commissioned them. They range from about 20 to 30 feet (6 to 9 meters) and are painted a uniform gray and placed, forest-like, in a near grid. The lights are solar powered and switched on at dusk, stunning!
Dont leave LA without going to visit LACMA, whatever is on.
Fabulous (we loved it)
