35 Sclater Street, London E1 6LB

Good luck trying to find this restaurant but when you actually do, its sooo worth it! Discreetly housed in what looks like it was once maybe an old warehouse, Smokestack does BBQ, in fact Smokestack is BBQ!

It’s industrial, it’s moody, it’s atmospheric, it’s cool, it’s contemporary, yes, it’s Shoreditch.

With its centralised open kitchen on the ground floor, a bar both below and upstairs, and its muted interiors, it’s almost cosy, the vey dimmed lights and candles on tables definitely make sure of that

Food-wise, the menu is short but really packs a punch full of flavour; if you like BBQ (really good BBQ) then you will love their take on it. With a variety of tasty grilled meats, from mustard barbecue brisket to thick-cut pork ribs and all accompanied with delicious tasty sides like pickled red chilli, mustard & dill or beef dripping gravy you’re in for a treat and if you don’t fancy meat there’s always the fish too, like a sea bream crudo, with grapefruit, pickled ginger & jalapeño or a whole grilled mackerel, sour grape & lime salsa, amazing!

Now veggies, don’t despair there’s plenty of BBQ for you too from the delicious salt baked beetroot, goat cheese & hazelnuts, to the coal roasted aubergine, red miso, toasted cashews and If you have still got room, then the obligatory’s are available too, like sticky toffee pudding but topped with burnt-butter ice cream.

The staff were really helpful, very obliging and looked like they were having fun too and not forgetting the bartenders, who were always at the ready to give you what you want.

We would go back!
