Calcutta Street Brixton
395 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, London SW9 8LQ
Serving delicious traditional home-style Bengali street food and a selection of tasty cocktails, there’s even a late licence and a cute garden out back, for those hot and sticky summer city nights.
Adorned by traditional bright colours, neon signs, vintage seating and retro film posters and inspired by the spirit of Calcutta the interiors are cool, the vibe is fresh and the atmosphere is on-point.
The food was amazingly tasty, we went for the lamb curry and a crab curry (complete with Ccab cracker) which were both bursting with flavour and offered the kick we were expecting, tasty dishes accompanied by delicious hot bread and steaming hot basmati flavoured rice. It’s a nice menu, with kebabs, chicken chaap (in a poppy seed and cashew sauce) and vegetables and lentils on offer for the vegetarians
A must is to try a traditional inspired shorbots (born on the streets of Calcutta) it’s a long cool drink infused with a ‘complimentary’ spirit along with refreshing various flavours such as mint, chilli, apple, plum or ginger.
This food was bursting with spice, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff were lovely, so another excellent addition to Brixton’s ever growing international repertoire that will be getting another visit sometime very soon.
Recommended (there’s even a sister restaurant in Fitzrovia in central London).
