Rök Smokehouse - Islington

149 Upper Street, London N1 1RA

What can we say, really, really good Scandinavian food! The small but diverse menu offers a delectable choice of Scandi sharing plates, that won’t leave you disappointed or hungry (unusual these days, the portions are perfect!).

Hot on the heels of its original sister restaurant in Shoreditch, Its Rök’s (smoke in Swedish) second offering. Based in a Grade II listed building (halfway up Upper Street) the décor is beautifully simple (well it is Scandinavian) and seats about 60 guests (if there are more than 4/5 of you  try and bag the window booth, lovely for a small group of friends or family to eat and be merry)

Rök knows what it’s doing and offers Scandinavian classics with a very modern twist, everything was delicious, especially the Venison steak, pork belly, pickled mackerel filets and Sweet potatoes dishes and we woke up the next day dreaming about the cabbage dish, which the waitress kindly recommend and which we can’t thank her enough for doing so (a must!) In fact, all the food was a must!

At the bar, there delicious cocktails or beers or trot down to “Below the Smoke” (the bar under the wood fire oven & restaurant).

Highly recommended, exceptional, all of it.
