Hoppers

49 Frith Street, Soho, London W1D 4SG

SoHo’s current fashion kid on the block, with waits of up to 2.5 hours to get a seat that didn’t put us off, we were going, even if we had to wait all that time (Luckily we didn’t we waited 45 minutes)and it was so very worth it!

Serving a wonderfully contemporary and amazingly tasty Sri Lankan cuisine, there’s no prizes for cutting edge décor but they definitely know how to do cosy & traditional with plenty of rattan, vintage Sri Lankan posters and pretty tiled flooring throughout, be prepared to share a table or sit at a small bar, beggars can’t be choosers just rejoice in the fact that you finally got in.

The menu is fantastic, Tamil roadside culinary inspiration provides the hopper, a bowl-shaped pancake made from fermented rice and coconut batter that was delicious, we got it with the Lamb Curry and relishes and they were all exceptional.  Equally good was the Goat roti and the very hot spicy shrimp. The crêpe-like ‘dosas’ were also stunning, ours were served with the blackened pork belly curry (very spicy) which just melted in the mouth.

A gentle reminder,  you must be prepared to wait, put your name down as soon as you arrive and a text will sent to you when a table is free,  this place is very popular at any time of the day, for a reason, the food!
