Vaksalagatan 10, 753 20 Uppsala, Sweden
La Parrilla opened in in Uppsala in September 2015 and hasn’t looked back since. This place is massive and covers quite a number of different rooms with some lovely little nooks and crannies to explore too (there’s even a smoke room and wine cellar) and as if that’s not enough, there’s even an amazing outside terrace area for the Al Fresco lovers amongst us! Set over a huge 1200 -square-meter footprint (formerly a local nightclub) this beautifully styled Argentinian style grill/Spanish tapas bar and deli certainly puts its money where its mouth is, on all counts.
The restaurant area is split into various individual spaces, there’s a bar, a tapas area, a grill, a banquet hall and it even has its own shop where you can but meals featured on the menu to take away and eat at home. They have thought of everything and that’s ‘a good thing’.
The terrace is wonderful, plenty of space between tables and ‘plenty’ of outside tables available, so you should be lucky, if you want to sit outside (yes, under the heaters ‘it is Sweden after all’).
Now onto the food, we went for the grill, offering a small but perfectly formed selection of the most amazing meats (and vegetarian dishes) which you pick at your leisure, these are all then accompanied by a very large wooden platter of gorgeous mixed sides (perfectly decided by the restaurant themselves) and the portions are ‘very’ large, so you won’t go home hungry.
In December 2015, English Wallpaper Magazine even gave La Parrilla the thumbs up:
Uppsala, the fourth largest city in Sweden and the oldest centre of higher education in Scandinavia, is undergoing a culinary awakening. The latest edition to the city’s burgeoning restaurant scene is La Parrilla, a combined deli, pintxos bar and steakhouse that takes its patrons on a saporous journey to New York, San Sebastian and Mendoza.
A well-deserved nod for their fantastic food in an equally fantastic restaurant space. Don’t miss it if you’re ever in Uppsala.
